Why did we do this costume:

We set up with the design for a Flash costume which flowed into producing a sudo Justice League. I liked the Arrow costume concept more particularly season one along with the bow design

Build progress:

Starting my write up I will go from the head down. The mask was a foam base with leather glue down and tinted green. Attached in the back with two garment snaps. The coat was a little tough to find, but I obtained a similar copy, sadly it was in black. Nothing that two canisters of Meltoniam Nu-Life Color Spray in 631 Dark Green can't take care of. The hood was created from green duck cloth hand stitched to match the tv program. Even the mismatch patch near the front of the hood. It was then glue down to the jack carefully to preserve the ease of motion.

The assembly of the pants took some time and effort to develop. They comprise three separate materials: green vinyl for the leather look, Olive green for the base and dark green Lycra for the interior legs for movement stretch. I began with a sewing pattern on my size slacks and laid out the parts. Because the pattern encompasses the leg all around and I had a mishmash, I had to make adjustments mostly for the base and Lycra. From some screen caps I figured out the size and shape of the vinyl. Note on material I felt that the base should be made from military grade canvas.

The boots were a long drawn out process in which I will try to give you a fraction on the story. The base shoe was Nike Free Run 2 which was striped down so what was left was the mesh base. I hacked up an old work boot and laid out the various pieces as a template. Laid out the pattern on black canvas and cut the individual pieces. The sewing was very in depth so please take my word it was difficult. I painted the sneaker soles with a mix of sole paint and Liquidtex.

The gloves was the simplest part of the build. They are accurately made from 5.11 Tactical Taclite 2 type.

First off The hip holster, I made this out of green canvas along with black webbing as the belts. The wrist bolts are made from leftover shaft parts I used in the hip arrows. The arrow heads for the wrist are Slick Trick Grizztrick 2 with one cross blade removed. I ground the razor edges down for safety reasons. The main arrowheads for the full sized arrows are screen accurate with Zwickey Eskimos. I attached the heads, fletchings and nocks to every shaft, nothing was purchased completed. I did three arrows with the accurate heads and the rest have just thin wooden dowels in them for display in the quiver. The forearm quiver (mount?) was made from a simple 6" forearm guard turned outward. The rear arrow gripper was a modified Replacement 6-Arrow Gripper for Kwikee Kwiver Bow Quiver and front again modified Replacement Arrow Gripper for Selway Bow Quivers. the arm guard was paint prior to attaching the mounts. The main quiver was made from 3" pvc pipe 18" inches long heated to make and oval shape. End cap made from pvc plastic. I covered the quiver in green vinyl. I attach 1 1/2" thick black webbing to sling. click on the link below for the bow construction

 After thoughts:

This project took a bit of time and effort to complete. I strive for a challenge and this was my challenge. As I said with a few other costumes, I really have no regrets. I do stick as close to my reference as possible. One thing That keeps tormenting me with the pants. I keep tearing the crotch out. It was a design flaw on my side and will have to address it in the future if I wear this again.
