I purchased this mask on ebay, and for privacy sake I will not solicit the seller's name (I will private message if interested) on my site. The seller offered two version and I went DIY PVC black version so I can match the paint to my suit - the other was a completed painted version with red and black. This mask is great and the sculpt is just about spot on - could not ask for closer. I had to heat the helmet slightly and adjust because the cheek corners rolled in a bit on shipment. Other than that the mask fits snuggly and comfortable to were for long periods. I used Krylon Burgundy Gloss CoverMaxx spray paint to add two finish coats. I filled in the valleys with a black Sharpie and a drafting inking pen to get the fine details. The final product in my eye was very pleasing. I purchased UA ColdGear Infrared Hood for under the mask. I wanted something with a textured effect and this masked has a honey effect. not exact but very close. This hoods also had what I was looking for and the face cover can be pulled under the chin.
The vambraces s or forearm armor was custom made from foam sheets purchased at the local craft store and a coating of rubberized spray paint. A bit back while I was researching this project I found a 3d rendering of the armor in a view different views ( the photo shown - I claim no ownership). Being a draftsman by trade I imported the photo into AutoCAD and scaled the picture to fit my measurements. It was from there I made my templates for chevrons, making sure to added extra to the templates for glue areas. Took the templates and transposed them to Foamie sheets in and since I need two arms the oblivious was to double up. I used E6000 to glue the foam together and made sure to pay close attention to my lay out lines. Sandwiching in between the foam was nylon strapping material for wearing purposes. After I completed the body I foamed it around a 4" PVC pipe with a heat gun to hold the curvature. The guards were finished with a coating of Plasti Dip rubberized paint and Velcro sewn onto the straps to hold the guards securely in place.
Unfortunately I could not afford the actual gloves used on the show but found a similar set on ebay slightly cheaper. I shot these gloves with rubberized spray paint to cover the texture. Close but no cigar, it will do for my needs
I started this project similarly like my others and that is as much research as possible. Scouring the web for a few weeks I gathered ample amount of artwork and actual screen caps from season 1 on Netflix till I was ready to commence with the costume. The base suit was my jumping off point so I wanted to find a full suit sewing pattern and ultimately came across Kwik-Sew 2335 wetsuit pattern. If I was doing it from scratch now I would utilized Yaya Han's new body suit pattern. I laid out my color designs on separate drawings prior to any cutting to determine proper placement. I used black twill which to my eye gave me the look I was going for and Scrubs Solid Wine fabric for the red. After pinning cutting and sewing the base suit was complete. I added a frontal zipper and closure hooks on the collar. To finish up the aesthetic appeal I added maroon poly cord to the shoulders and pockets under the breast line on the front. Zippers were added to the wrist and ankle areas. To finish it out, the club holster was made from canvas strapping glued and stitched and PVC tubes to hold the actual clubs. According to screen caps I notice slides on the front side of the harness on the thigh area, these were made from plastic slides sprayed silver. The shoulder plates are made from 1/4 inch foam, heated and curved. I later painted it with black Plasti-Dip and shoe eyelets attached for the finished look.
Since the beginning I decided to go with a separate vest for the armored chest. I suppose I could have combined both but at that time I decided it was the best idea. I started with as handmade pattern made from plastic wrap covered masking tape around my body duct tape mannequin. I made the base vest out of black twill fabric and 3mm foam and then cut up the pattern to the individual pieces. The vest will close on the sides by Velcro. The plates were made from 3mm foam actually sewn to the base vest. The shoulder straps are made the same way as the plates but has rubberized fabric sewn to it and velcroed to the front. The vest front can be totally removed from the back. I went to the belt and belt closure. the belt base was made from two inch canvas strapping covered in red fabric sewn in place. The belt closure is made from plastic end pieces glued to 1/4 inch foam. snaps are glue into the end caps. the belt is actually attached to the vest and can be detached from the front vest piece
After a extensive examination on the internet and screen caps I finally found a great photo to go by, a fan's 3d model of the screen used product. I wanted the covers to fit snuggly around the leg and boot without shifting. I made a duct tape mannequin from my leg and foot and stuffed it with foam and applied my boot to it. From here I made a masking tape pattern From here I started to lay out the base pattern on 3mm foam. as each layer was made I added the decorative pattern (scalloped shapes on the back side). The front section of the covers attached with four magnets on each side. After construction was complete, the finished product was painted with black Plasti-Dip rubber coating.
I went with a pair of side zipper tactical boots I had. Extremely comfortable to wear and comes very close to screen accurate
