The Mystical Hammer of Angrir
The Hammer of Angrir fell to Earth after the Serpent called a series of hammers to awaken the Worthy. It crashed on Yancy Street, the old neighborhood of Ben Grimm. In the middle of examining it, Reed Richards asks the Thing to try and lift it, resulting in his transformation into Angrir, Breaker of Souls. Shortly after picking it up, he destroys the surrounding area with the hammer.
Sometime later, the Red Hulk tried to stop him but was unsuccessful. In the middle of their fight, Angrir uses the Hammer to destroy Avengers Tower. After battling Red Hulk and destroyed the Avengers Tower, Angrir battled Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastic using his hammer. After the Serpents defeat the hammer was placed in a vault in the Baxter Building, until Valkyrie convinced the Thing that she would take care of it.

There was no actual measurements of this hammer within the comics so I needed to take some assumptions. I based a lot of the measurements on
comic images and how it related to windows and doors as well as people. I used standard 1 1/2" wooden dowel 48 inches in length for the handle simple purchased from Home Depot and cut to 36 inches. This is where I figured just about all measurements as well as previously posted. I could not have this huge 90 lbs. hammer head on a 1/2 inch dowel. So I had to find my base first. From there I laid out the hammer in AutoCAD to get a final design and my plan of attach. The hammer was made from 90% pine board wood except for the dowel. The head was rough cut pine boards glue into a chunky block. The meat tenderizer ends were cut on a table saw changing the blade angles and hammer direction just about each pass. When the shape was found I sanded it smooth and filled any imperfections from the cutting process. The end ring was cast in polyester resin found at Wal-Mart in the auto section filling a tube I formed in a circle.
I had some extra tan fabric left over from another project and used it for the wrappings. The discoloration (dirtied up) came from soaking the
fabric in black coffee for a few hours and left to air dry. There is a ring that wrapped the hammer near the head which was simply a pvc pipe coupling worked over a little bit and them glued on the handle. I did gouge the hammer slightly for the well used essence. After the initial build was complete I took the raw wood hammer and painted it with filler primer, about three coats. The filler primer I found does not soak in as much to the wood which brings the time and cost down for me. Two coats of a flat black for texturing when the hammer is scratched. The final paintings was done with the Silver Rust-Oleum Hammered Spray Paint to get that used look to my eye. I did do some black dry brushing to emphasize the man made defects. Wrapped the fabric around the end ring and bam finished.
