Why did we do this costume:

Cody and I both enjoyed the DC comics Darksied War series which stimulated the influence in our 2017 official costumes. My son has always enjoyed every aspects and iterations of the Flash and went ecstatic with the God of Death design - the black base and glowing energy design

Build progress:

I simply started with an effective costume drawn up and exploration to figure the finest course of action to take with the build process. I commenced with a black under suit made by hand from a stretch knit blend.

Then started to break down the armor pieces to bulk out the suit. I developed the shoulder bells, neck guard and helmet out of EVA foam. Sharp knife and a heat gun was my strongest companion. The shoulder bells stayed in place with two sets of straps. The lower ones are wrapped around the bicep armpit area and closes with Velcro. The top straps are attached to each other with strapping and buckles across the front and back in the shoulder/collar bone area.

The neck guard is more or less a custom design aspect, the images are not as pronounced in this area. The neck guard is held closed with recessed magnets glued in place. The guard hides the upper shoulder bell straps.

Helmet was a partial purchased design for the base and the faceplate was custom to fit and the face was hand cut. I found as template online and transposed it over EVA foam. The seams were glued using contact cement and filled in with an adhesive caulking. faceplate was also held in place by recessed magnets similar process to the neck guard. I added a plastic frame to hold the eye mesh in place. The mesh was made from regular screening for windows and sprayed with Plastidip - heavily. I took liberties to airbrush the screen material before gluing in place. The ear tips are wood bases and plastic wings painted with regular red spray paint. The forearms arm multi- layered Foamie sheets glue with e6000. The closure method was flat magnets. All foam pieces were painted with black Plastidip, 3 coats. The shin pieces are fabric coated Foamies.

Now the good stuff all colored lines and designs are meticulously air brushed with red, orange and cooper paint. The shoes are standard wrestling sneakers and gloves are satin formal gloves airbrushed too.

After thoughts:

I have almost no afterthought with this costume. If I would have to pick on an aspect, it would be the body suit. If I would redo the base suit, I would apply a coating of liquid latex with maybe black paint mixed in for finish. I would have done this to lessen the amount of paint I used in the airbrush process. I had to apply heavier amounts of paint which caused stiffening. Other than that I enjoy making this costume and receive numerous compliments on it
